More than a week has passed since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. The affected communities are still navigating the challenges of resettlement and reconstruction.
Amidst the recovery efforts, firefighters from the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on a unique role in Cuo’ang Village, Quluo Town. Beyond their duties in ensuring safety and aiding in reconstruction, these firefighters are stepping into kitchens to prepare meals for the villagers.
The aroma of freshly cooked food fills the air as the firefighters chop vegetables, stir pots, and serve warm meals to residents impacted by the earthquake. Their efforts provide not just nourishment but also a sense of normalcy and comfort during a difficult time.
“We want to do everything we can to support the villagers,” said one of the firefighters. “Cooking meals is a small way to show that we’re here for them, not just as first responders but as members of the community.”
The collective spirit in Cuo’ang Village reflects the resilience of the people in Xizang. While challenges remain, the collaboration between the villagers and the firefighters symbolizes hope and the willingness to rebuild together.
Resettlement and reconstruction continue as the community works towards recovery. Acts of kindness, like those of the firefighters preparing lunch, highlight the unity and determination of the people in the face of adversity.
