More than a week after a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7, resettlement and reconstruction efforts continue in earnest. The quake left many villagers in Cuo'ang Village, Quluo Town, dealing with the aftermath of the disaster.
Amidst the recovery efforts, firefighters from the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on a special role beyond their usual duties. Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, met with these dedicated firefighters as they prepared lunch for the affected villagers.
Under the crisp winter sun, the firefighters donned aprons over their uniforms, chopping vegetables and stirring large pots over open flames. The aroma of freshly cooked food filled the air, bringing a sense of normalcy and comfort to the villagers who have been through so much.
\"We want to do everything we can to help the community,\" said one of the firefighters. \"Cooking meals is just one way we can support the villagers during this difficult time.\"
The villagers expressed deep gratitude for the firefighters' efforts. \"They have been a tremendous help,\" said a resident of Cuo'ang Village. \"Not only are they assisting with rescue and reconstruction, but they are also taking care of our daily needs.\"
The collaborative spirit between the firefighters and the villagers highlights the resilience and unity of the community in the face of adversity. As reconstruction progresses, such acts of kindness continue to bring hope and strength to those affected by the earthquake.
