More than a week after a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7, resettlement and reconstruction efforts are still in full swing. Amidst the challenges, firefighters from the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have stepped in to provide much-needed support to the local community.
At Cuo'ang Village in Quluo Town, one of the areas hardest hit by the quake, the firefighters are going beyond their call of duty. Donning aprons over their uniforms, they are preparing hot meals for the villagers who have been displaced by the disaster. The aroma of freshly cooked food wafts through the makeshift kitchens, bringing comfort and a sense of normalcy to those affected.
“We want to do everything we can to help the villagers recover,” said one of the firefighters. “Cooking meals is a small gesture, but it brings people together and lifts their spirits during this difficult time.”
Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, witnessed firsthand the camaraderie between the firefighters and the villagers. Children gathered around, watching with curiosity as the firefighters chopped vegetables and stirred steaming pots. Elders expressed their gratitude, noting how the support has strengthened the community's resilience.
The local authorities are coordinating with various units to ensure that aid reaches all those in need. The firefighters' efforts are a testament to the solidarity and compassion that emerges in the face of adversity.
As resettlement progresses and reconstruction plans take shape, the collaborative spirit between the residents and the responders continues to shine. The shared meals symbolize hope and the promise of rebuilding stronger together.
