More than a week has passed since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. The quake left many residents displaced and disrupted daily life in the region.
Amid ongoing resettlement and reconstruction efforts, members of the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have been on the frontline, not only combating fires but also assisting local communities in their time of need.
In Cuo’ang Village, Quluo Town, the firefighters have taken on the role of caregivers, preparing lunch for villagers affected by the earthquake. Their efforts go beyond their call of duty, embodying a spirit of unity and compassion.
“We want to do everything we can to support the villagers,” said a member of the firefighting team. “Cooking meals is a small gesture, but it brings comfort and a sense of normalcy during these challenging times.”
Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, visited the village to witness firsthand the dedication of these firefighters. The aroma of freshly cooked food filled the air as the team worked together to prepare a hearty meal. Villagers gathered, sharing stories and offering gratitude to those who have come to their aid.
The collaborative effort highlights the resilience of the community and the commitment of the firefighters to aid in recovery. As reconstruction continues, such acts of kindness play a crucial role in healing and rebuilding.
“Their help means a lot to us,” said one of the villagers. “It shows that we are not alone in this, and together, we can overcome the aftermath of the earthquake.”
