Firefighters Cook for Quake-Affected Villagers in Xizang’s Dingri County

More than a week has passed since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake shook Dingri County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. As resettlement and reconstruction efforts continue, stories of compassion and community support are emerging from the affected areas.

In the quaint Cuo'ang Village of Quluo Town, the firefighters of the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on a role beyond their call of duty. Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, visited the village to witness firsthand how these brave firefighters are not only ensuring safety but also nourishing the spirits of the villagers by preparing lunch for them.

Amidst the rubble and the ongoing reconstruction, the aroma of freshly cooked meals brings a semblance of normalcy to the villagers. The firefighters, clad in their uniforms, are seen chopping vegetables, stirring pots, and serving meals with smiles, embodying solidarity and hope.

\"It's the least we can do,\" says one firefighter as he stirs a large pot of stew. \"We are here to support the community in every way possible.\"

The gesture has resonated deeply with the villagers, many of whom have been displaced from their homes. \"Their kindness warms our hearts,\" shares an elderly resident. \"In times like these, it's comforting to know we are not alone.\"

The collaborative effort in Cuo'ang Village reflects the broader resilience and unity of the people of Xizang. As reconstruction progresses, the community remains steadfast, supported by the selfless acts of those like the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit.

While challenges remain, the spirit of cooperation and compassion shines through, highlighting the strength of community bonds in the face of adversity.
