Firefighters Cook for Earthquake Survivors in Xizang’s Dingri County

It has been over a week since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. As resettlement and reconstruction efforts continue, stories of compassion and solidarity are emerging from the affected areas.

In Cuo'ang Village, Quluo Town, firefighters from the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on a unique role. Beyond their duties of ensuring safety, they are preparing lunch for villagers displaced by the quake.

Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, visited the frontline to witness firsthand the warmth and support these firefighters are providing to the local community. Amidst the ongoing reconstruction, the simple act of sharing a meal brings comfort and a sense of normalcy to the villagers.

Under clear skies, the firefighters set up makeshift kitchens, chopping vegetables and stirring large pots over open flames. Their efforts not only nourish the bodies of the villagers but also uplift their spirits during this challenging time.

As the community rallies together, the collaborative efforts of the firefighters and villagers highlight the resilience and unity of the people in Xizang. The rebuilding process continues, fueled by hope and shared compassion.
