It has been over a week since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. As resettlement and reconstruction efforts continue, stories of compassion and resilience emerge from the affected areas.
In the small village of Cuo'ang, Quluo Town, members of the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on a new role: chefs for the community. Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, visited the village to witness firsthand how these firefighters are going beyond their call of duty to support the villagers.
Amid the cold mountain air, the aroma of sizzling food fills the temporary shelters. Firefighters chop vegetables, stir pots, and serve steaming meals to grateful residents. \"We want to provide warmth and comfort to the villagers during this difficult time,\" said Liu Wei, a member of the firefighting unit.
Villagers gather around the communal dining area, sharing stories and expressing gratitude. \"Their help means the world to us,\" remarked Tashi, a local resident. \"Not only are they helping rebuild our homes, but they are also lifting our spirits.\"
The firefighters' efforts exemplify the solidarity and compassion that have become the hallmark of the disaster relief operations in Xizang. As reconstruction continues, the bond between the rescuers and the community grows stronger.
