Firefighters Cook for Earthquake-Affected Villagers in Xizang’s Dingri County

It's been over a week since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. As resettlement and reconstruction efforts continue, the firefighters of the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on a new role: cooking meals for the local villagers.

In Cuo'ang Village, Quluo Town, the sounds of clanging pots and the aroma of freshly cooked food fill the air. The firefighters, usually seen battling blazes and conducting rescues, are now donning aprons and handling ladles to ensure that the quake-affected residents have warm, nourishing meals.

\"Providing meals is just one way we can support the villagers during this difficult time,\" said a member of the firefighting unit. \"It's important that they feel cared for as they rebuild their lives.\"

The earthquake, which caused significant damage to homes and infrastructure, left many residents displaced. The firefighters have been instrumental not only in search and rescue operations but also in assisting with resettlement efforts, showcasing their dedication to the community.

As lunchtime approaches, villagers gather around communal tables, sharing stories and expressing gratitude for the support they're receiving. The collaborative spirit between the firefighters and the villagers reflects the resilience and unity of the community in the face of adversity.

With reconstruction underway, the people of Dingri County remain hopeful. The continuous efforts of the firefighters and other volunteers highlight the collective determination to restore normalcy and build a stronger community.
