Firefighters Bring Warmth to Quake-Affected Villagers in Xizang

More than a week has passed since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. As resettlement and reconstruction efforts continue, acts of kindness are bringing hope to the affected communities.

In Cuo’ang Village, Quluo Town, firefighters from the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit are going beyond their call of duty. Amidst the challenging conditions, these dedicated firefighters have taken it upon themselves to prepare lunch for the quake-affected villagers, providing not just meals but also comfort and support.

“We want to do everything we can to help the villagers recover,” said a firefighter from the unit. “Cooking meals is a small gesture, but it shows that we are here for them.”

Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, visited the frontline to witness the firefighters’ efforts firsthand. The atmosphere in Cuo’ang Village is one of resilience and unity. As the firefighters chop vegetables and stir steaming pots, villagers gather, sharing stories and finding solace in community solidarity.

Resettlement efforts are still underway, with local authorities and volunteers working tirelessly to rebuild homes and infrastructure. The firefighters’ initiative to prepare meals not only nourishes the body but also lifts the spirits of those who have lost so much.

“Their support means a lot to us,” said one of the villagers. “It’s not just about the food; it’s about knowing that we are not alone in this.”

The earthquake has tested the strength of Dingri County’s residents, but through acts of compassion and community cooperation, recovery is on the horizon. The firefighters’ dedication exemplifies the unity and perseverance of the people of Xizang in the face of adversity.
