Firefighters Bring Warmth to Quake-Affected Villagers in Xizang

More than a week has passed since a powerful magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. The tremor left behind a trail of destruction, displacing many residents and causing significant damage to infrastructure.

Amid the ongoing resettlement and reconstruction efforts, a ray of hope and warmth has emerged in the form of the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit. In Cuo’ang Village, Quluo Town, firefighters have taken on a new role—preparing lunch for the quake-affected villagers.

Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, visited the village and witnessed firsthand how these brave firefighters have become pillars of support for the local community. Donning aprons over their uniforms, they chopped vegetables, stirred steaming pots, and served hearty meals to grateful residents.

“We want to do everything we can to help the villagers recover,” said one of the firefighters. “Providing a warm meal is just a small gesture, but we hope it brings some comfort during this difficult time.”

The villagers, many of whom have lost their homes, expressed deep appreciation for the firefighters’ efforts. “They are not only protecting us but also caring for us like family,” said an elderly resident. “Their kindness gives us strength to rebuild our lives.”

The collaborative spirit in Cuo’ang Village is a testament to the resilience and solidarity of the people of Xizang. As reconstruction continues, acts of compassion like these serve as a beacon of hope, showing that the community can overcome adversity together.

The firefighters plan to continue supporting the villagers in any way they can until the resettlement is complete. Their dedication exemplifies the unity and altruism that arise in the face of natural disasters.
