In the shadow of the Himalayas, the village of Cuo'ang in Quluo Town, Dingri County, is finding hope amidst the aftermath of a devastating earthquake. On January 7, a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, leaving communities grappling with destruction.
More than a week later, resettlement and reconstruction efforts are in full swing. Among the heroes on the frontline are firefighters from the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit. Not only are they working tirelessly to aid in rebuilding, but they are also taking time to cook meals for the affected villagers.
Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, joined these dedicated firefighters as they prepared lunch for the residents of Cuo'ang Village. The aroma of freshly cooked food mingled with the crisp mountain air, bringing a sense of comfort to the community.
“We want to do more than just rebuild structures; we want to help rebuild lives,” said one firefighter. “Cooking meals is a small way to bring people together and show that we care.”
The villagers, many of whom lost their homes, expressed heartfelt gratitude. “Their support means the world to us,” a resident shared. “In these challenging times, their kindness gives us strength.”
As reconstruction continues, the solidarity between the villagers and the firefighters stands as a testament to the resilience and unity of the community.
