It's been over a week since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. The tremor left many villages damaged, and residents are still grappling with the aftermath as resettlement and reconstruction efforts continue.
In the midst of the recovery, a group of dedicated firefighters from the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on an unexpected role in Cuo'ang Village, Quluo Town. Beyond their duties of ensuring safety and aiding in rescue operations, these firefighters are bringing comfort to villagers by preparing hot meals.
Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, visited Cuo'ang Village to witness the heartwarming scene. The firefighters, clad in their orange uniforms, worked diligently over steaming pots and open fires, cooking nourishing dishes for the villagers who have been displaced by the earthquake.
\"We want to do more than just rescue operations,\" said one firefighter. \"Providing a warm meal is a small way to help the villagers feel cared for during this difficult time.\"
Villagers gathered around, expressing gratitude for the firefighters' efforts. \"They've been a tremendous help,\" said a resident of Cuo'ang Village. \"Their presence here brings us comfort, and their meals warm both our bodies and our hearts.\"
The collaborative spirit between the firefighters and the local community highlights the resilience and solidarity in the face of natural disasters. As reconstruction continues, such acts of kindness play a crucial role in healing and rebuilding.
Authorities are focusing on restoring infrastructure and providing necessary aid to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected residents. The efforts of the firefighters exemplify the dedication of those working tirelessly to support the communities in Xizang.
