CGTN Hosts Global New Year’s Eve Broadcast to Welcome 2025

As the world prepares to bid farewell to 2024 and welcome 2025, CGTN is presenting a special 4.5-hour live broadcast featuring New Year’s Eve celebrations from around the globe. The event aims to unite audiences worldwide through a global relay showcasing diverse cultural festivities and shared hopes for the coming year.

The broadcast kicks off at Ortaköy Square in Turkey, where viewers can enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the Bosphorus Strait and learn about Turkish traditions for ringing in the New Year. From there, it moves to the Gaza Strip, offering a poignant glimpse into the aspirations of people in the war-torn region hoping for a New Year ceasefire.

In Africa, correspondents from Kenya highlight local celebrations, bringing to life the vibrant culture and community spirit. Back in Beijing, the iconic 798 Art Zone hosts exhilarating lion dance performances, symbolizing luck and prosperity for the New Year.

The city of Arxan in Inner Mongolia lights up with performances by the Wulanmuqi Art Troupe, interactive experiences with fairy-tale characters, and a spectacular fireworks show. Meanwhile, in Xi’an, the CGTN Hanfu Studio collaborates with young Hanfu enthusiasts and musicians to present a Hanfu-themed event, celebrating traditional Chinese attire and music.

Celebrations continue with fireworks displays in Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR, Chongqing, and other regions. Young Chinese from different parts of the world contribute short videos, sharing their unique New Year’s experiences and spreading messages of unity and hope.
