UN Chief and China Condemn Israeli Attack on UN Peacekeepers in Lebanon

The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday condemned an Israeli attack in south Lebanon that injured two Indonesian peacekeepers serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

According to UNIFIL, an Israeli tank fired upon a watchtower at their headquarters in Naqoura on Thursday, resulting in injuries to two of their personnel. UNIFIL, which has around 10,000 peacekeepers stationed in south Lebanon, plays a critical role in maintaining peace and security along the Lebanese-Israeli border.

China also strongly denounced the Israeli attack on the UN peacekeepers. The Chinese Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Friday expressing grave concern over the incident and calling for restraint to prevent further escalation.

\"The safety of UN peacekeepers must be ensured,\" the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated, emphasizing the importance of respecting the mandates of UN missions and international law.

The recent incident has heightened tensions in a region already experiencing significant unrest. The international community is watching closely as events unfold in the Middle East, with calls for all parties to exercise caution and avoid actions that could lead to wider conflict.

As the situation develops, we will continue to provide updates on the unfolding events across the Middle East.
