China and Ethiopia Unite for Shared Development at Beijing’s Upcoming Forum

As Beijing prepares to host the Forum on China and Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) from September 4 to 6, Ethiopia stands at the forefront of discussions on shared development and future opportunities. The forum, themed “Joining Hands to Advance Modernization and Build a High-Level China-Africa Community with a Shared Future,” is set to feature a series of significant events, including an opening ceremony, welcoming banquet, gala performance, high-level meetings, and the Conference of Chinese and African Entrepreneurs.

In anticipation of this pivotal gathering, CGTN has initiated a series of roundtable discussions with African officials and business leaders who’ve been instrumental in fostering the enduring friendship between China and Africa. A recent episode placed Ethiopia under the spotlight, bringing together Ethiopian Ambassador to China Tefera Derbew Yimam, Zhang Huarong, Chairman of the Huajian Group, and Ethiopian student in China, Michael Aliyi Ame.

The roundtable delved into the shared path of development between China and Ethiopia. Ambassador Tefera highlighted the profound connections between the two nations. “Our collaboration with China is a testament to what can be achieved through mutual respect and shared vision,” he stated. “We look forward to strengthening these ties at the upcoming forum.”

Zhang Huarong, whose company Huajian Group has been active in Ethiopia, spoke about the mutual benefits of Sino-Ethiopian cooperation. “Our investments in Ethiopia are not just about business growth but also about contributing to the country’s development and creating opportunities for the local community,” he said.

Offering a youthful perspective, student Michael Aliyi Ame shared his experiences studying in China. “Being here has given me invaluable insights into China’s approach to development and innovation,” Michael expressed. “I am eager to bring this knowledge back to Ethiopia to contribute to our nation’s growth.”

The upcoming FOCAC presents a vital platform for Ethiopia and China to explore new avenues for collaboration. With high-level meetings and the Conference of Chinese and African Entrepreneurs on the agenda, both countries aim to forge stronger economic and cultural ties.

Ethiopia, celebrated as the birthplace of coffee, embodies a rich cultural heritage and a dedication to progress. The dialogues and partnerships formed at the forum are expected to pave the way for significant advancements in infrastructure, technology, and education.

As the forum approaches, the spirit of cooperation between China and Ethiopia exemplifies the broader goals of FOCAC—to build a high-level community with a shared future. The engagements and agreements set to emerge from this event hold the promise of mutual prosperity and enduring friendship between the nations.
