The World Economic Forum’s 15th Annual Meeting of the New Champions, commonly known as Summer Davos, convened this week in the coastal city of Dalian, China. Representatives from nearly 80 countries and regions gathered to explore the theme “Next Frontiers for Growth,” focusing on innovation, sustainability, and the future of the global economy.

Chen Shaowang, mayor of Dalian, shared insights into the city’s achievements in green and low-carbon development during an exclusive interview. “Dalian has been committed to promoting sustainable practices and creating a high-quality business environment,” Chen said. “We are focusing on leveraging our coastal advantages to drive economic growth while preserving the natural ecosystem.”

The city’s strategic initiatives aim to attract international investment and foster innovation. “By enhancing our infrastructure and offering favorable policies, we hope to become a hub for entrepreneurs and investors looking to tap into the Asian market,” Chen added.

At the forum, the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology was a significant topic of discussion. Jeremy Jurgens, managing director of the World Economic Forum, emphasized the transformative potential of AI in an interview. “AI is reshaping productivity across industries and will fundamentally change how we work,” Jurgens stated. “It’s essential for global leaders to collaborate on frameworks that ensure AI technologies are developed and implemented responsibly.”

Jurgens highlighted the need for inclusive growth and preparing the workforce for technological changes. “We must invest in education and skills training to equip people for the jobs of the future,” he said. “Artificial intelligence offers immense opportunities, but we need to address the challenges it poses to employment and privacy.”

The Summer Davos 2024 served as a platform for dialogue on critical issues facing the global community. Discussions ranged from economic recovery post-pandemic to sustainable development goals. Participants underscored the importance of international cooperation in navigating the complex landscape of global growth.

The event in Dalian reflects Asia’s dynamic role in shaping the future economic agenda. As the world seeks new drivers for growth, insights from the forum highlight the region’s increasing influence and the collaborative efforts needed to address shared challenges.
