On the occasion of the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) 2024, China is inviting the world to “Be part of the Plan” to halt and reverse biodiversity loss. The United Nations Environment Programme has called upon all stakeholders to support the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, also known as the Biodiversity Plan.
Biodiversity encompasses the vast variety of plants, animals, and microorganisms on Earth, as well as the genetic differences within species and the ecosystems they form. This intricate web of life is essential for sustaining the natural systems that provide us with food, clean water, and a stable climate.
To celebrate IDB 2024 and showcase its rich biological diversity, China is highlighting several of its natural treasures. The World Horti-Expo Garden in southwest China offers a glimpse into the region’s unique flora. In the north, the Daqingshan National Nature Reserve is home to diverse wildlife and important ecological systems. Meanwhile, the scenic Wuzhizhou Island in the south boasts marine biodiversity and pristine tropical landscapes.
By exploring these natural wonders, visitors and virtual participants can gain a deeper appreciation for the importance of protecting biodiversity. The theme “Be part of the Plan” encourages everyone to contribute to global efforts in conserving our planet’s biological richness.
On this special day, China’s commitment to biodiversity offers an opportunity for global collaboration in safeguarding the environment for future generations.
