Global Leaders Discuss Ethical AI at Boao Forum for Asia 2024

Boao, Hainan Province—At the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2024, global thought leaders convened to tackle the pressing challenges and risks associated with artificial intelligence (AI). The panel, titled Global AI Governance, was moderated by CGTN host Tian Wei and delved into the keys to resolving issues for ethical and responsible AI development.

The discussion brought together some of the brightest minds in the field, including Mathias Cormann, Secretary-General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD); Dong Zhihua, Counsellor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China; Kyoung Mu Lee, Professor at Seoul National University; Lu Jinghui, Chief Security Officer of Vivo; Christopher Thomas, Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution; Song Yonghua, Rector of the University of Macao; and Zhu Xufeng, Dean of the School of Public Policy & Management at Tsinghua University.

Panelists explored strategies for balancing innovation with regulation, emphasizing the importance of international collaboration in establishing standards for AI ethics and governance. The dialogue highlighted the need for transparency, accountability, and inclusivity in AI development to ensure that technological advancements benefit all sectors of society.
