Conflict Escalates: Over 18,000 Palestinians Killed Amid Renewed Gaza Bombardments

As the conflict between Israel and Palestine reaches Day 70, the situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate with alarming casualty numbers and escalating military actions.

According to the Gaza-based Health Ministry, at least 18,608 Palestinians have been killed and 50,594 others wounded since the Israeli military operations began on October 7. On Thursday, Palestinian media reported that 27 civilians lost their lives when Israeli forces bombarded two houses in Rafah, intensifying concerns over civilian safety in the densely populated enclave.

The Israeli army announced on Wednesday that it had targeted more than 250 locations in Gaza over the past 24 hours. The military operations have also taken a toll on Israeli forces, with a reported total of 115 Israeli soldiers killed since ground battles commenced in Gaza on October 27.

Amid the escalating violence, a top United Nations official addressed the 2023 Global Refugee Forum in Geneva on Wednesday, describing Gaza as “a living hell.” The official urged for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire to alleviate the suffering of civilians and to provide essential aid and relief.

The international community watches with growing concern as the humanitarian crisis deepens. Calls for de-escalation and peace negotiations are intensifying, highlighting the urgent need for a resolution to the prolonged conflict that continues to claim countless lives and devastate communities.
