China’s biodiversity is a treasure trove best experienced up close. In a recent expedition to the Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province, CGTN host Tian Wei and Beate Trankmann, United Nations Development Programme’s representative in China, explored one of the nation’s most biodiverse regions.
Dehong Prefecture, nestled in southwestern China, is home to a remarkable array of wildlife, with one in ten of China’s terrestrial and aquatic animal species found within its rich ecosystems. The lush forests and diverse habitats make it a critical area for conservation and a living laboratory for studying biodiversity.
Throughout their journey, Tian Wei and Trankmann encountered various species and witnessed firsthand the results of China’s dedicated efforts to protect its natural heritage. Trankmann noted that over the years, China’s strategies for conserving valuable ecosystems have shown significant progress, contributing positively to global biodiversity.
“China’s commitment to preserving its unique ecosystems is evident here in Dehong,” Trankmann observed. “The collaborative efforts between local communities and conservationists are making a tangible difference in protecting these precious habitats.”
The expedition highlights the importance of continued conservation initiatives and the role they play in safeguarding the planet’s biodiversity. Dehong’s thriving wildlife populations serve as a testament to the effectiveness of such efforts, offering hope for the future of ecological preservation.
