Humanitarian Crisis Deepens in Gaza as Conflict Enters Day 21

The ongoing conflict between Palestine and Israel in the Gaza Strip has reached its 21st day, with over 8,300 fatalities reported on both sides. The intensifying violence has led to a severe humanitarian crisis, particularly in Gaza, where the situation continues to deteriorate.

More than 610,000 civilians in Gaza are now seeking refuge in facilities operated by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). These shelters are stretched beyond capacity as Israeli air strikes persist, leaving many without basic necessities.

On October 25, an air strike severely damaged a UNRWA school in Rafah that was housing 4,600 displaced Palestinians. The attack resulted in the death of one person and injuries to 44 others, including nine children, highlighting the increasing dangers faced by civilians and aid workers amid the conflict.

Aid groups are struggling to support the massive displaced population under challenging conditions. To date, 38 UNRWA personnel have lost their lives in Gaza while conducting relief work, underscoring the risks faced by those providing humanitarian assistance.

The international community has expressed concern over the escalating crisis, calling for immediate measures to protect civilians and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid. As the conflict continues, the prospects for a swift resolution remain uncertain, raising fears of further casualties and deeper humanitarian repercussions.
