UNWTO’s 25th General Assembly in Samarkand Focuses on Sustainable Tourism Investment

The United Nations World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO) 25th General Assembly commenced on October 16 in the ancient city of Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Over five days, high-level delegates and ministers from more than 150 countries have gathered to discuss the revival and sustainable future of global tourism.

Samarkand, known as the “shining pearl of the Silk Road,” offers a rich historical backdrop with its 2,500 years of heritage. The city has long been a pivotal hub for trade and communication, continuing its legacy within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.

The assembly’s discourse centers on diversifying tourism investments to enhance sustainability and resilience in the industry. Key discussions focus on aligning tourism development with the interests of “people, planet, and prosperity.”

At this year’s UNWTO Global Investment Forum, CGTN’s Zheng Junfeng engaged in meaningful dialogues with high-level ministers. Together, they explored strategic solutions to the challenges facing the global tourism industry, aiming to foster collaboration and innovation for positive economic growth while preserving cultural heritage and environmental integrity.
