Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev arrived in Beijing today to participate in the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. The event marks the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), a global development strategy initiated by China involving infrastructure development and investments across Asia, Europe, Africa, and beyond.
President Tokayev’s attendance underscores Kazakhstan’s strategic partnership with China and its significant role in the BRI. Positioned at the crossroads of Eurasia, Kazakhstan has been a pivotal participant in the initiative, serving as a key transit hub connecting East and West through various infrastructure projects, including railways, highways, and energy pipelines.
The forum is expected to host representatives from more than 130 countries, reflecting the expansive reach and influence of the BRI over the past decade. Leaders and delegates will engage in discussions on the achievements of the initiative, explore avenues for future cooperation, and address global economic challenges.
During his visit, President Tokayev is scheduled to meet with Chinese leaders to strengthen bilateral ties and discuss mutual interests in trade, investment, and regional security. The meetings aim to bolster economic collaboration and enhance connectivity between the two nations.
The Belt and Road Forum provides a platform for participating countries to enhance connectivity, promote sustainable development, and deepen cultural exchanges. As the global community navigates economic uncertainties, international cooperation initiatives like the BRI are pivotal in driving growth and fostering stability.
