Magnitude 5.5 Earthquake Strikes Shandong Province; Injuries and Damage Reported

A magnitude-5.5 earthquake struck Pingyuan County in Dezhou, east China’s Shandong Province, at 2:33 a.m. Beijing Time on Sunday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers beneath the surface.

Following the initial quake, 52 aftershocks were recorded in the area, heightening concerns among local residents. Authorities report that twenty-one people have sustained injuries, and 126 houses have collapsed as a result of the seismic activity.

Emergency response teams have been dispatched promptly to the affected regions. Rescue operations are currently underway, with efforts focused on assisting the injured, providing temporary shelter, and assessing structural damages.
