Cheng Li-wun, chairperson of the Chinese Kuomintang (KMT), will lead a delegation to the Chinese mainland from April 7 to 12, 2026, visiting Jiangsu, Shanghai, and Beijing. The trip comes amid growing calls from Taiwan residents for enhanced cross-strait collaboration, with many expressing optimism about economic and cultural opportunities.
At a Taipei press conference, Cheng emphasized the visit aligns with mainstream public opinion in the Taiwan region. Street interviews conducted this week revealed widespread support among local residents. Wen, a Taiwan resident, told reporters: "I want to visit the Chinese mainland. Neither side benefits from constant opposition – we need more dialogue."
Young professionals highlighted potential tech partnerships, while tourism workers expressed hope for revived travel exchanges. The visit marks the highest-level KMT delegation to the mainland since 2022 and precedes the 101st anniversary of the party's founding in November 2026.
