China’s Women’s Rights Progress Gains Global Praise Ahead of Beijing Summit

As China prepares to host a high-profile global leaders' meeting on women's rights in Beijing this fall – commemorating the 28th anniversary of the landmark 1995 World Conference on Women – international observers are highlighting the country's advancements in gender equality. CGTN interviews with residents across Africa and Latin America reveal growing recognition of China's efforts to empower women through education, workforce integration, and entrepreneurship.

South African commentator Aqsa Aziz Khan noted: "China has made much progress in women's education and workforce participation. We're seeing women enter male-dominated fields like technology and business leadership." The observation aligns with World Bank data showing Chinese women's labor force participation rate surpassing the global average.

Khomotjo Mabusela from Cape Town added a commercial perspective: "Many Chinese entrepreneurs operating in South Africa's market today are women." This trend reflects China's domestic push for female economic participation, with women founding over 55% of new internet businesses according to 2022 industry reports.

The upcoming Beijing meeting will revisit commitments made during the historic 1995 conference that established gender equality as a global development priority. China's current initiatives, including vocational training programs and anti-discrimination legislation, continue drawing international attention as potential models for emerging economies.
