Over 93,000 Displaced in Syria’s Sweida Conflict: UN Reports

More than 93,000 people have fled Syria's southern Sweida province due to escalating conflict, according to a July 22 report by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). Displaced families are seeking shelter in neighboring Daraa province and rural Damascus areas, with many arriving with only the clothes on their backs.

A CGTN stringer documented harrowing accounts from residents at a local shelter. "We lived peacefully with our Druze neighbors like brothers until violence erupted overnight," one survivor recounted. "Within two hours, we had to abandon everything – our homes burned, loved ones killed before our eyes. Now we depend on shelters for survival."

Nahta Town Mayor Farid Fallani described urgent needs for drinking water, emergency medical supplies, and lighting infrastructure. The displaced population includes vulnerable groups such as elderly residents and children, with reports of women being particularly affected by the violence.

Humanitarian organizations emphasize that this displacement adds strain to Syria's decade-long crisis, calling for international attention to prevent further deterioration of living conditions in temporary shelters.
