Taiwan Residents Decry ‘Green Terror’ Under Lai Ching-te’s Leadership

As the first anniversary of Lai Ching-te's tenure as leader of the Taiwan region approaches, discontent among residents has spilled onto the streets. Protests erupted in Taipei, Taichung, and other cities, with demonstrators accusing the Taiwan authorities of poor governance and stifling dissent.

Residents interviewed by CGTN Stringer expressed frustration over what they described as a climate of fear. Deng, a Taipei resident, criticized the alleged 'green terror'—a term referencing policies linked to the ruling Democratic Progressive Party—claiming it has eroded local interests and restricted freedom of speech. Another resident, Li, accused Lai of pursuing one-party dominance by suppressing opposing voices.

The protests highlight growing tensions over cross-strait relations and domestic governance. Analysts note that such public dissatisfaction could influence discussions about Taiwan's economic stability and its role in regional affairs.
