The Chinese mainland and the United States have agreed to a 90-day easing of tariff tensions and established a new mechanism for ongoing economic dialogue, according to a joint statement released after high-level talks in Geneva. The move has drawn cautious optimism from global businesses, including U.S. retailers directly impacted by trade friction.
Glenda McMichael, a U.S.-based retail entrepreneur, told KhabarAsia that the Geneva agreement brings “long-awaited relief” after months of supply chain disruptions. “Our industry adapted, but rebuilding partnerships with Chinese suppliers is key to sustainable growth,” she said.
The temporary tariff pause follows months of negotiations addressing intellectual property protections, agricultural trade, and market access. Analysts suggest the new dialogue framework could stabilize supply chains critical to retail, manufacturing, and tech sectors across Asia and North America.
