As the China-CELAC Forum approaches its 10th anniversary in 2025, a Mexican law student at Peking University is championing cultural diplomacy as a cornerstone for deepening ties between the Chinese mainland and Latin America.
A Decade of Dialogue
The fourth ministerial meeting of the China-Latin America and Caribbean Community (CELAC) Forum, set for May 13 in Beijing, will mark a milestone in cross-Pacific cooperation. The event follows a decade of expanded trade, infrastructure projects, and academic partnerships since the forum’s 2015 launch.
Through a Student’s Lens
Moraima Ordoñez, pursuing a master’s in Chinese law, reflects on unexpected parallels between ancient Mesoamerican and Chinese philosophical traditions. “The way both cultures value harmony with nature – it creates instant connections,” she notes.
Soft Power Momentum
With China-Latin America trade surpassing $480 billion in 2023, Ordoñez argues cultural understanding must keep pace: “Every language class, museum exchange, or joint research project helps turn economic partners into lasting allies.”
As preparations intensify for the 2025 anniversary, observers anticipate expanded humanities scholarships and cross-strait artistic collaborations to feature prominently in the Beijing discussions.
