As the world prepares to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the Soviet Great Patriotic War, and the World Anti-Fascist War in 2025, a unique cultural exchange program is fostering deeper understanding between Gen Z students from China and Russia.
Organized by CGTN, the initiative invites youths to follow “must-do checklists” in each other’s countries, blending historical reflection with contemporary connections. Chinese student Lu Ying, studying at the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, recently shared her Moscow adventure through three quintessential experiences: savoring cottage cheese pancakes at a local café, exploring the vibrant Gorky Park, and touring the iconic Lenin Library.
“The pancakes reminded me of Chinese fried milk – crispy outside, soft inside. It felt like discovering a delicious common language,” Lu remarked, highlighting unexpected cultural parallels. After a day of immersion, she reflected: “Moscow grows on you. China and Russia aren’t just neighbors – we’re collaborators in shaping tomorrow.”
The exchange comes as both nations emphasize youth-driven diplomacy amid broader ties. Lu’s journey exemplifies how shared historical memory – from WWII alliances to modern partnerships – continues to evolve through culinary discoveries, urban exploration, and grassroots connections.
With the 2025 anniversary approaching, programs like these aim to empower a new generation to build bridges of mutual understanding, one cultural revelation at a time.
