South Korean Pet Shop Owner Shares Hope for Unity in 2025 Amid Turmoil

As 2024 draws to a close, the people of South Korea usually look forward to gathering for meals, traveling, and visiting friends and family. However, this year, these cherished traditions have been disrupted by political turmoil.

Dongdong, a pet shop owner in Seoul, reflects on the challenges of the past year. “2024 has been quite challenging for us,” she shares. “I hope that in the future, society can be more caring and united, prioritizing the common good over individual success.”

Despite the difficulties, Dongdong remains hopeful for the new year. Her personal wish for 2025 is simple yet heartfelt: to travel more with her dog. “Spending time with my pet brings me joy, and I believe small joys can help us through tough times,” she says.

Dongdong’s sentiments resonate with many South Koreans who are seeking unity and compassion as they navigate uncertain times. Her hopes reflect a desire for a society that looks beyond individual achievements to embrace collective well-being.
