Chongqing, China – When Chilean student Raquel Herrera stepped onto the vibrant campus of Chongqing University, she knew she was embarking on a journey that would shape her future and forge connections between two distant lands.
Raquel’s fascination with China began years ago in her hometown in Chile, where she immersed herself in the language and culture at a local Confucius Institute. “Studying Chinese opened up a whole new world for me,” she recalls. “I was captivated by the depth of China’s history and the richness of its traditions.”
After three years of rigorous language studies, Raquel’s dedication paid off when she received a Chinese government scholarship in 2022. Now pursuing a master’s degree in business administration at Chongqing University, she is not only advancing her education but also living her dream of experiencing China firsthand.
“Being here allows me to truly understand the nuances of Chinese culture,” Raquel says. “Every day is an opportunity to learn something new and to share my own culture with others.”
With aspirations to work in the Chinese entertainment industry, Raquel hopes to become a bridge between China and Chile. “Entertainment is a powerful medium for cultural exchange,” she explains. “I want to help people from both countries appreciate each other’s stories and perspectives.”
Raquel is also looking forward to the upcoming APEC meeting in Peru next year. “I hope the discussions will focus more on environmental issues and enhancing cultural exchanges among different countries,” she says. “It’s crucial for the future of our global community.”
Her journey reflects a growing trend of young people seeking international education and fostering cross-cultural understanding. “We are the future leaders and connectors,” Raquel smiles. “By embracing different cultures, we can build a more harmonious world.”
