An Israeli air strike on October 14 struck tents sheltering displaced individuals near Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, resulting in at least four deaths and approximately 70 injuries, according to medical sources cited by the Palestinian official news agency WAFA.
Medical staff at the hospital are grappling with a surge of patients suffering severe burns and critical injuries. The head of the emergency department told CGTN Stringer that the facility is facing acute shortages of disposable medical supplies and essential equipment, hindering their ability to provide adequate care.
Amid the chaos, desperate appeals are being made for the opening of the Rafah border crossing to allow international organizations to deliver much-needed medical aid. “We have patients who are dangerously injured and need more care, but we lack the necessary resources,” the emergency department head said.
Among the injured is the child of Amani Madi, who recounted the harrowing experience. “Everything in our home was burned,” she said. “A missile fragment penetrated my child’s body.”
The incident underscores the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, as medical facilities struggle to cope with the increasing number of casualties amid ongoing hostilities.
