Lebanon is in mourning following the confirmation by Hezbollah that its leader, Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on the southern suburbs of Beirut on September 27. The announcement has sent shockwaves throughout the nation, deepening the sense of uncertainty amid escalating regional tensions.

At a press conference on September 29, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati expressed grave concerns about the unfolding situation. He warned that the number of Lebanese displaced by Israeli attacks could reach one million, underscoring the humanitarian impact of the ongoing conflict.

In the southern city of Sidon, residents shared their grief and apprehension about the future. Mahmoud Al-Shamiya, a local resident, described Nasrallah’s death as a “very big loss” for the Lebanese people. “He was a symbol of resistance,” Al-Shamiya said.

Another resident, Bilal Dimassi, conveyed the pervasive sense of shock. “The country is in shock. Nobody knows where the war is heading,” he remarked, reflecting the widespread concern about the potential for further escalation.

The death of Hassan Nasrallah marks a significant turning point for Hezbollah and Lebanon. As the nation grapples with the aftermath, the call for unity and resilience resonates more than ever among its people.
