American Filmmaker’s Enduring Love for China

New York City, NY — For American film producer Ana Fernandez Perez, China is more than just a distant land; it’s a place that forever changed her life. Living and working in New York, Ana’s passion for Chinese culture led her to embark on a journey to China in 2009, where she spent a transformative year teaching at a college in Xiangtan City, central China’s Hunan Province.

Before setting foot in China, Ana had always been intrigued by its rich history and culture. However, nothing could have prepared her for the profound impact the country would have on her. “When I arrived, I was completely amazed,” she recalls. “Everyone was so studious, grateful, and friendly.”

During her time in Xiangtan, Ana immersed herself in the local culture. She explored majestic mountains and serene rivers, tasted unique and flavorful cuisine, and formed deep connections with the people she met. “I not only visited incredible places and enjoyed the food, but I also learned so much and gained invaluable experiences,” she says.

Even after returning to New York, the impressions and lessons from China have remained a significant part of Ana’s life. “Although I’m far away on the other side of the ocean, what I learned in China stays with me,” she shares. “China remains a part of me in so many ways.”

Ana’s story is a testament to the lasting bonds that can form through cultural exchange and mutual understanding. Her love for China continues to influence her work in film, where she seeks to bridge cultures and tell stories that resonate across borders.
