Chinese President Xi Jinping’s keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing on September 5 has been met with enthusiasm by Nigerians, signaling a strengthened bond between China and Nigeria.

CGTN Stringer interviewed several Nigerian residents to gather their perspectives on the speech and the broader China-Africa friendship. Among them was Duke Alamboye, president of the local Youth Organization, who expressed his encouragement and optimism following President Xi’s address.

“I was deeply inspired by President Xi’s speech,” Alamboye remarked. “It reaffirms our shared commitment to advancing cooperation between Nigeria and China. We need to go hand in hand to foster deeper exchanges in various fields.”

Alamboye highlighted the potential for enhanced collaboration in areas such as trade, technology, and cultural exchange. He believes that the summit sets the stage for a new era of mutual growth and understanding between the two nations.

The positive reception of President Xi’s speech among Nigerians reflects a growing interest in bolstering ties with the Chinese mainland. As the largest economy in Africa, Nigeria’s partnership with China holds significant implications for regional development and global economic dynamics.

Many Nigerians are hopeful that the commitments made during the FOCAC summit will translate into tangible benefits, including infrastructure development, investment opportunities, and educational exchanges.

The China-Africa Cooperation Summit continues to serve as a vital platform for dialogue and collaboration, striving to promote solidarity and shared prosperity between China and African nations.
