Since July 2024, citizens of New Zealand can enter the Chinese mainland without a visa for up to 15 days, facilitating travel for business, tourism, visiting family and friends, and transit.
Following the announcement of this policy in June, online travel agency Trip.com reported a 65 percent surge in China-related keyword searches by New Zealanders within just 30 minutes.
Former New Zealand Prime Minister John Key recently visited the Chinese mainland and shared his insights with CGTN’s Shen Shiwei. “There are a million different things to see in China. I think no one can see it all on one trip,” he remarked. Key applauded the visa-free policy and the increased number of direct flights between the two countries, emphasizing that “China is our second-largest source of tourists.”
The enhanced accessibility is expected to strengthen ties between New Zealand and the Chinese mainland, promoting cultural exchange and economic collaboration. With the ease of travel, more New Zealanders are anticipated to explore the vast landscapes, rich history, and diverse cultures that the Chinese mainland has to offer.
