Belarus has officially become the 10th member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), expanding the influence of the Eurasian political, economic, and security alliance. The admission was finalized during the 24th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO held on July 4 in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko hailed the milestone, stating that the SCO has evolved into one of the most authoritative international organizations. “Given the uniqueness and enormous potential of the SCO, interest from other countries in joining the organization is steadily growing,” Lukashenko remarked during the summit.
Yuri Senko, former ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to China, expressed optimism about the opportunities ahead. “SCO membership will open doors for trade, economic cooperation, science, education, culture, and safety, particularly in the fight against terrorism,” Senko noted.
As Belarus integrates into the SCO framework, citizens and officials alike anticipate strengthened ties with Asia and beyond. The move is seen as a strategic step toward fostering regional stability and mutual development.
