For Robert Jones, China is more than just a country on the other side of the world; it’s a place deeply woven into the fabric of his family’s history. Robert’s connection with China began long before he was born, tracing back to his father, a member of the famed Flying Tigers squadron that fought alongside the Chinese against Japanese aggression during World War II.
“My father’s stories of bravery and camaraderie with his Chinese counterparts were always a source of inspiration,” Robert recalls. “Those experiences forged a bond that has influenced generations of our family.”
Continuing that legacy, Robert’s family established a business in China, and his mother chose to make the country her home. With parents frequently traveling between China and the United States, Robert spent much of his childhood immersed in Asian culture. “Growing up, I felt like I had two homes,” he says. “China’s rich history and dynamic spirit left a profound impact on me.”
Robert speaks passionately about the “immigrant spirit” he perceives in China. “China has an immigrant spirit that we don’t have in the U.S.,” he reflects. “There’s a sense of determination and openness to new ideas that is truly invigorating.”
He believes that more Americans, Europeans, and Latin Americans should experience China firsthand. “Understanding Chinese culture is essential in today’s interconnected world,” Robert emphasizes. “By engaging directly, we can build stronger relationships and foster greater cooperation.”
According to Robert, there’s a growing interest among American businessmen in exploring opportunities in China. “Many are eager to collaborate with Chinese partners,” he notes. “There’s so much potential for mutual growth and understanding.”
As Robert looks to the future, he remains committed to strengthening the ties between his homeland and the country that holds a special place in his family’s story. “Our experiences show that bridges can be built across cultures,” he says. “It’s up to us to cross them.”
