Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to France, Serbia, and Hungary from May 5 to 10 has been met with enthusiasm by European residents and experts. This marks his first trip to Europe in nearly five years, highlighting the significance of strengthening China-Europe relations.
John McLean, a British national and chair of the China-UK Business Development Centre as well as the Institute of Directors for the City of London, expressed his optimism about the visit. Having traveled between China and the United Kingdom for over 25 years, McLean believes that President Xi’s trip is a welcome development that could bolster economic and cultural ties.
“This visit is a positive step toward deepening mutual understanding and cooperation between China and Europe,” McLean stated. “Strengthened relations can lead to substantial benefits in trade and investment for both sides.”
In Ireland, retiree Jim Curran shared similar sentiments. He noted that President Xi’s meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron sent out many positive signals. Curran expressed hope that China and Ireland would play important roles in the fields of trade, culture, and art.
“The collaboration between China and European countries is crucial for promoting global peace and development,” Curran said. “I look forward to seeing increased cultural exchanges and economic partnerships.”
