Amid increasing cultural exchanges between China and France, young people from both countries are discovering the rich traditions that define each culture’s festivals. During the recent Spring Festival holiday, Sherry Zhang spoke with French youths Nico Demeure and Yves Baillod about their experiences with Chinese Spring Festival customs and the parallels they see with festival traditions in France.
“The Spring Festival is a time of joy and family reunions,” said Baillod. “I’ve observed how Chinese people value spending this time with their entire family, which reflects the strong family bonds in China. This is similar to how we in France celebrate important holidays with our loved ones.”
Demeure echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance of food and shared meals during festive occasions. “In both China and France, traditional dishes play a central role during festivals. It’s fascinating to see how food brings people together across different cultures,” he said.
The conversations between Zhang and her French peers underscore the growing appreciation for cultural traditions and the common values shared between China and France. As more young French people engage with traditional Chinese culture, these exchanges foster greater mutual understanding and strengthen the bonds between the two nations.
