The 6th China International Import Expo (CIIE) concluded on November 10 in Shanghai, bringing together guests from 154 countries, regions, and international organizations. With over 3,400 enterprises participating, the expo served as a global platform for showcasing products and fostering international trade.
For the first time, Honduras was among the main guest countries from Latin America. Honduran exhibitors presented a diverse range of products, including coffee, cigars, wine, seafood, tourism, and investment opportunities. Their debut at the CIIE marks a significant milestone in the burgeoning relationship between Honduras and China.
Since the formal establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Honduras in March, there has been growing interest in strengthening economic ties. The question on many minds is: What are the most popular Honduran agricultural products on the Chinese market?
To explore this, CGTN Stringer took to the streets of both Honduras and China to gather public opinions and estimations. While official statistics on export growth are yet to be released, there is palpable excitement about the potential increase in Honduran exports to China. The participation at the CIIE is seen as a catalyst for boosting trade and introducing Honduran products to Chinese consumers.
“I’m eager to try Honduran coffee,” said Li Wei, a Shanghai resident. “I’ve heard it has a unique flavor profile, and it’s great to have more options available.”
In Honduras, local businesses are optimistic. “China is a vast market with immense potential,” noted Maria Sánchez, a coffee exporter from Tegucigalpa. “We hope that our products will find favor among Chinese consumers and that this will open doors for more cultural and economic exchange.”
The exposé of Honduran products at the CIIE underscores the shifting dynamics of global trade and the importance of international expos in bridging markets. As diplomatic relations deepen, both nations look forward to increased cooperation and mutual benefits.
