The Gaza Strip is grappling with a severe energy crisis as residents find themselves cooking outdoors with firewood due to dwindling fuel supplies. On Monday, a third convoy of humanitarian aid trucks delivered water, food, and medicine to the besieged region. However, the United Nations has warned that fuel was not included in the shipments, and reserves are expected to run out within the next two days.
Footage captured by CGTN Stringer on Monday showed long lines at gas stations and families cooking meals over open fires in the streets. The shortage of fuel has not only disrupted daily life but also threatens critical services, including hospitals and water treatment facilities.
“We have no gas or electricity,” said a resident of Gaza City. “We are using firewood to cook for our families. We don’t know how long we can continue like this.”
The situation has raised alarm among humanitarian organizations. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has called for immediate fuel deliveries to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe. Without fuel, generators that power hospitals, desalination plants, and other essential infrastructure will cease to operate.
