GAZA STRIP—Residents of the Gaza Strip are facing increasing hardships following the recent cutoff of electricity supplies from Israel. About two-thirds of Gaza’s electricity comes from Israel, and on October 7, Israel’s Energy Ministry announced it would halt power supply to the region in response to the ongoing conflict.
In the wake of the outage, Gazans have turned to a limited number of backup generators and solar power systems to meet their basic daily needs. However, with fuel reserves gradually depleting, these temporary solutions are under strain, and the electricity supply has become increasingly tight.
The scarcity of power not only impacts households but also critical infrastructure, including hospitals, water treatment facilities, and communication networks. Residents are expressing concern over the looming challenges as fuel runs low, fearing that essential services may come to a halt.
Local initiatives are attempting to distribute fuel and resources where possible, but the scale of the shortage is overwhelming. As the situation unfolds, the people of Gaza are bracing for the difficult days ahead, hoping for a resolution that will restore essential utilities and bring relief to the region.
