Hailing from Mongolia, Bilge recently graduated from Tsinghua University in Beijing, where she majored in international relations. As a member of the Student Association of the Belt and Road Initiative, she developed a keen interest in regional connectivity and cooperation.
On a trip from Guangzhou in south China’s Guangdong Province to Beijing, Bilge experienced China’s high-speed rail for the first time. She was impressed by its efficiency and speed, witnessing firsthand how advanced infrastructure can bridge vast distances.
“The Belt and Road Initiative emphasizes railway projects that promote connectivity and economic cooperation between countries,” Bilge explained. She pointed to the China-Laos Railway as a prime example. This railway connects cities along the China-Laos border, facilitating the movement of goods and people and bringing the vision of the Belt and Road Initiative to life on a global scale.
Having seen the benefits of high-speed rail, Bilge hopes that Mongolia can collaborate with other countries to develop its own high-speed rail network. Such connectivity, she believes, would deepen trust among Asian nations and open new avenues for economic and cultural exchange.
“Railways like the China-Laos Railway show us what’s possible when countries work together,” she said. “I look forward to a future where Mongolia is connected through a high-speed rail network, enhancing our ties with neighbors and contributing to regional prosperity.”
