Rescue Efforts Continue in Marrakesh After Devastating Earthquake
On September 8, a powerful magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Morocco at 11:11 p.m. local time, at a depth of 18.5 kilometers. The disaster has claimed the lives of at least 2,900 people, leaving communities in shock and mourning.
Among the survivors is Marrakesh resident Amine Bensalek, who recounted the terrifying experience of that night. “It was terrifying,” he shared. “The ground shook violently, and everyone was in panic. It was an experience I will never forget.”
In the aftermath, relief efforts are underway. The local government has been actively distributing supplies to Marrakesh and the affected villages. “We have received supplies, and disaster relief activities are in order,” Amine mentioned. “There’s a coordinated effort to help those in need.”
The resilience of the Moroccan people shines through as communities come together to support one another. Despite the challenges, there is hope and determination to rebuild and recover from this tragedy.
