The China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), the world’s largest comprehensive trade fair for services, is set to take place from September 2 to 6 in Beijing. This year, the United Kingdom will be the guest of honor, presenting the largest service trade pavilion at the exhibition.
In anticipation of the event, CGTN Stringer visited London’s bustling Russell Square to gauge the expectations of local Generation Z youth regarding the UK’s showcase at CIFTIS. When asked which British cultural icons they believe will feature prominently at the UK Pavilion, the consensus was clear: Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, and James Bond.
“Harry Potter is more than just a book or film series; it’s a significant part of our culture and childhood,” said Emily, a university student. “I think it would be fantastic to share that magic with audiences in Beijing.”
Others echoed this sentiment, highlighting the global appeal of these franchises. “The Lord of the Rings represents epic storytelling rooted in British literature,” noted James, an aspiring writer. “Showcasing it at CIFTIS would emphasize the UK’s creative industries.”
James Bond, the suave and enigmatic secret agent, was also mentioned as a timeless icon. “Bond is the embodiment of British sophistication and intrigue,” said Maya, a recent graduate. “He’s a symbol that resonates worldwide.”
The anticipation reflects the enthusiasm of British youth for international cultural exchange. By featuring these beloved intellectual properties, the UK Pavilion has the potential to strengthen cultural ties and highlight the UK’s vibrant creative sector to the Asian market.
CIFTIS provides a platform for such exchanges, fostering collaboration and mutual appreciation between nations. As global audiences converge in Beijing, the UK’s presentation promises to be a highlight, bridging cultural divides through shared stories and iconic characters.
