Eakvixay Tran, known by his Chinese name Xiaolong—the same as Bruce Lee’s first name—is a young Lao economics student at Tsinghua University in China. His journey reflects the growing ties between China and Laos, symbolized by the newly established China-Laos Railway.
Tran’s inaugural trip on the China-Laos Railway was a memorable two-night, three-day adventure to Luang Prabang, Laos. This trip was a reward for winning a speaking contest, but it also offered him a firsthand experience of the transformative impact the railway is having on his homeland.
“The railway has not only shortened the distance between Kunming and my hometown of Vientiane but also brought new opportunities,” Tran shared enthusiastically. “I’ve seen a surge in investment and real estate development in Laos, and the local employment rate has increased.”
The China-Laos Railway, connecting Kunming in China to Vientiane in Laos, is more than just a transportation link; it’s a bridge of friendship and economic collaboration. For Tran, it represents a pathway to his future ambitions.
Armed with the economic knowledge he’s acquiring in China, Tran plans to return to Laos to foster business ventures that encourage further investment. “I want to use what I’ve learned to strengthen the China-Laos relationship,” he said. “The railway is just the beginning.”
