A Journey of Discovery and Belonging
Andreea, a Romanian student at Tsinghua University in Beijing, embarked on an unexpected journey that led her to find a second family in China. Majoring in economics and finance, her fascination with Chinese language and culture began in high school.
Embracing Chinese Culture in Jiamusi
Driven by her curiosity, Andreea joined a Chinese high school in Jiamusi City, located in northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, as an exchange student. Immersed in a new environment, she delved into traditional arts like calligraphy and Chinese painting, and practiced Tai Chi and Kung Fu.
Finding a Second Family
Beyond academics, Andreea’s host family in Jiamusi welcomed her with open arms. They shared with her the joys of Chinese New Year and other festivals, introducing her to the warmth and unity that are central to Chinese family life.
Lessons in Unity and Hospitality
“Living in China taught me the values of family unity and hospitality,” says Andreea. “It’s heartwarming to be embraced by a culture that values togetherness and care.”
A Home Away from Home
Andreea’s experiences have not only enriched her understanding of Chinese civilization but also forged lifelong bonds. “China has become my home away from home,” she reflects, grateful for the connections and memories she has made.
Bridging Cultures
Her journey exemplifies the profound impact of cultural exchange and highlights how embracing diversity can lead to personal growth and meaningful relationships.
